Ermac is set to make his debut in Mortal Kombat 1 next week on April 16th through early access, with Mavado expected to join in May. Mavado, who hasn’t been playable since MK: Tournament Edition in 2003, is a key figure in the Red Dragon criminal organization, which rivals the Black Dragon headed by Kano.
Unlike many characters in the series, Mavado does not possess supernatural powers, but rather relies on using whips with steel hooks to fight. In the trailer, Ermac is shown using his iconic telekinesis powers and summoning souls to immobilize his enemies.
Furthermore, the trailer depicts a brutal fatality where Ermac dismembers his opponent and then reassembles them into a grotesque form. Some fans were disappointed with Ermac’s appearance in the trailer as he didn’t have a mask, but it is revealed that his face is actually customizable.
Ermac, initially introduced in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, is a fusion of souls functioning as one entity. In the game’s original and alternate timelines, Ermac was created by Shao Kahn to serve as an enforcer.
However, in Fire God Liu Kang’s new timeline, he was created by Quan Chi using the soul stealer to drain the Living Forest. Despite being a key character in the story mode, Ermac is only now being added as a playable character through DLC.
Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the franchise’s universe, following the events of Mortal Kombat 11. It offers a diverse roster of fighters, an expanded story, and an all-new Kameo fighter system.
With Ermac’s introduction, only two fighters from the first Kombat Pack are yet to be added – Homelander and Takeda.
