Neil Newbon, who plays the character Astarion in the Baldur’s Gate series, has expressed his openness to the possibility of returning for future installments. In an interview on the BAFTA Games Awards red carpet, he mentioned that he feels “not done” with the character yet, indicating his willingness to reprise the role if given the opportunity. On the other hand, Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced that they will be stepping away from the series.
This decision came as a surprise to fans, as it means there will be no further expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3 and no development of a Baldur’s Gate 4 by Larian. Despite this, there is still potential for a sequel, but it would now be at the discretion of Wizards of the Coast. Larian cited the “constraints” of working with the D&D 5e combat system as one of the reasons for their departure from the Baldur’s Gate series.
Given their experience with creating RPG mechanics in the Divinity series, it is likely that they will return to that style of gameplay now that they have concluded their work with Wizards of the Coast.
