Tetsuya Nomura revealed in the Ultimania that he had originally planned to use “Reunion” as a subtitle for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. However, the title “Rebirth” was ultimately used due to the remaster of Crisis Core claiming the “Reunion” name for itself. One popular theory currently suggests that the title of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be “Return”, as it seems unlikely they can use “Reunion” again.
Interestingly, it was initially revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was meant to have a different subtitle, but the Crisis Core remaster’s use of it led to Nomura opting for “Rebirth” instead. While many have grown accustomed to the name “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” it’s acknowledged that “Reunion” would have made sense, especially given its frequent use throughout the game. Despite this, Nomura managed to find an alternative title that he liked almost as much.
