Bandai Namco Issues Legal Threat to Tekken 8 Mod Site

Bandai Namco has once again targeted Tekken modders, prompting anger from fans. The admin of TekkenMods.com reported that the company sent a notice of infringement, calling for the removal of all Tekken-related images and logos from the website. This is not the first time Bandai Namco has taken action against the Tekken modding community.

The company has previously faced backlash for sending similar notices to a fan site hosting mods for Tekken 8. If confirmed, this latest notice would be another example of Bandai Namco cracking down on mods in its games, having previously issued copyright claims against videos showing modified Tekken gameplay. Dennis Stanistan, the site admin of TekkenMods.com, shared a screenshot of the email containing the demand to remove the images and logos, arguing that their use implies endorsement by Bandai Namco and infringes on their intellectual property rights.

TheGamer has reached out to Bandai Namco to verify the legitimacy of the notice. Stanistan has expressed confusion as to why the notice singled out a specific page for removal, prompting questions from the community. Despite the notice, TekkenMods is still operational, but the mentioned URL has been taken down by the mod’s author.

The move has sparked widespread criticism within the Tekken community, with fans expressing frustration at Bandai Namco’s apparent targeting of modders once again. In the Tekken subreddit, users have described the company’s actions as self-sabotage and disappointing but unsurprising. It remains unclear why Bandai Namco objected to a specific page rather than the site as a whole, as Tekken imagery is present throughout the website.
