Filmmaker Uwe Boll has turned to crowdfunding, seeking $2.5 million to produce a movie based on Postal 2 as a reaction against what he perceives as “woke” culture. However, the campaign has only reached $800 so far, and the original game’s developer, Running With Scissors, is not involved in the project. If the fundraising falls short, the movie may be repurposed as “California Fried Movie,” a separate project.
The flexible funding goal means that if Boll and his team don’t reach their target in 30 days, they won’t have to refund the money but can use it towards a different film. The campaign has raised just $835 from 16 backers. Boll has committed to match the funds raised for the film, even if the goal isn’t met.
Running With Scissors has made it clear they do not support the fundraising effort and criticized the lack of communication with the project’s owner. They expressed concerns about the potential use of their intellectual property without consent and emphasized the importance of ensuring that fans receive what they pay for. Boll’s motivation for making Postal 2 seems to be driven by his perception that comedy has been stifled by political correctness, algorithms, and “cancel culture.”
He sees the film as a stand for artistic freedom and freedom of speech. He envisions it as a way to reclaim control in a world that he believes has become increasingly restrictive. The movie itself, as envisioned by Boll, is set to feature the “Postal Dude” in a world filled with fast-paced action and challenges.
It promises various control options, LAN multiplayer, bonus challenge stages, and a wide range of weapons to engage players.
