Larian’s Creation of Fallout Would Delight Fans but Disappoint Larian, Says Report

Larian Could Make A Killer Fallout Game In The Style Of The Originals

Larian, known for its decision to develop Baldur’s Gate 3, is not in contention to develop a Fallout game at this time. While the Amazon TV series brought renewed interest in the Fallout games, there is currently no new major installment available for fans to play.

The most recent single-player entry is almost a decade old, and fans of the isometric Fallout games have not had a new release for two decades. It is appealing to imagine Larian taking over the Microsoft-owned RPG series and returning it to its original style, considering that the last top-down game was released in 2004 and was not faithful to the originals.

Bethesda has maintained a first-person shooter paradigm for the series for over 17 years, leaving a gap in the market for a return to the classic Fallout style. Ubisoft’s approach to the Prince of Persia series demonstrates that novel, smaller takes on a series can keep fans engaged while waiting for the next major release.

Larian’s take on Fallout would not need to replace Bethesda’s, but could exist alongside it, offering fans another interpretation of the gameplay. Embracing both the original style and Bethesda’s FPS paradigm could enhance the Fallout series by catering to different preferences.

Despite the potential for Larian to develop a Fallout game, the company is not in need of playing with another studio’s IP. As the most beloved RPG developer, Larian has the freedom to pursue any project it desires.

Nonetheless, it is still intriguing to speculate on what Larian could accomplish with the Fallout license if it ever decided to collaborate with Bethesda.
