Magic: The Gathering recently announced the release of a special card in tribute to Menery, revealed at MagicCon last year. The card, a version of Inkshield featuring Menery himself, will be included in a new charity Secret Lair called Sheldon’s Spellbook. The cards were showcased on the Commander Rules Committee Twitch channel, and Wizards of the Coast’s Scott Larabee later shared a video revealing the cards. The special set, Sheldon’s Spellbook, will be available in both foil and non-foil versions, priced at $49.99 and $39.99 respectively.
This will be a timed-box release, meaning pre-orders placed within specific dates are guaranteed to receive the set. Unlike most Secret Lair releases, which are limited, this release will ensure availability to all pre-order customers. The expansion, Disney Lorcana, is expected to introduce small details that create a significant impact on the game. While the Commander Rules Committee noted that they were unsure of the existence of a secret card, fans are advised not to anticipate one.
Breaking from the traditional limited release format, the special nature of this charity Secret Lair is a meaningful gesture within the Magic community.
