Move Aside RPGs, 2024 Is The Year of the Comforting Game

This year at PAX East, I saw some ultra-comfortable games that got me excited for a year of pure-hearted fun in 2024. After experiencing RPG fatigue in 2023, I revisited my roots by immersing myself in the world of Stardew Valley. However, despite my love for the game, I started to feel burnt out after playing it for so long.

The game’s recent update injected some new life into it, but I didn’t have the chance to fully explore it as it was released right before my trip to PAX East. At the event, I spent the weekend on the bustling show floor, engaging in various activities and appointments. Despite the excitement, the long hours and constant interaction took a toll on me as an introverted individual.

Amidst the busyness, I had the opportunity to indulge in cozy games, which are my preferred genre. Two specific games, Kamaeru and Snacko, particularly stood out to me. Both games provided a serene escape in the midst of the convention chaos, allowing me to momentarily experience wholesome and meaningful gameplay.

At the convention, I also explored other cozy games such as Slime Heroes and Botany Manor, which captured my attention with their charm and relaxed gameplay mechanics. The experience made me eager to enjoy these comforting games in the tranquility of my own home, where I can fully appreciate their soothing qualities. Ultimately, the prospect of indulging in these cozy games in 2024 as a respite from daily life excites me, and I look forward to immersing myself in their tranquil worlds.
