Despite the controversy surrounding Dead Cell’s closure, its demise has allowed Evil Twin to focus on developing newer and more exciting projects. It is quite unexpected to see two Prince of Persia games being released within a short span of time after the series remained relatively quiet since the release of The Forgotten Sands in 2010. However, if this means more content from one of Ubisoft’s most esteemed series, it is certainly a welcome development.
Interestingly, there is a connection between The Rogue Prince and The Lost Crown, despite them being separate games. Evil Empire and Ubisoft Montpellier collaborated closely during the development of their respective Prince of Persia games to ensure they were distinct from each other and presented the series in different ways. The collaboration was confirmed by Lucie Dewagnier, the director of The Rogue Prince of Persia, who revealed that Evil Empire even had the opportunity to play The Lost Crown during its alpha stage.
This collaboration included regular communication to avoid duplicating efforts and to learn from each other’s approaches in presenting two different perspectives of the same franchise. Dewagnier disclosed that The Rogue Prince of Persia started its development around the time The Lost Crown was in its alpha stages, indicating that Ubisoft Montpellier’s game was initiated earlier than The Rogue Prince. As The Rogue Prince of Persia is launching in Early Access and The Lost Crown has more content in the pipeline, the hope is that this collaboration will continue in the future.
