Figure out whether Extra is worth your money while only paying Essential prices. Unless the Xbox news coming later this week is even more shocking than any of us are expecting, PlayStation is unlikely to have Game Pass, or its own version of it, on its platforms anytime soon. The most we can hope for is PlayStation Plus which, while not quite as good value as Game Pass, is still pretty great.
Especially when you can get 12 months of Extra for the price of Essential, saving you $60. The offer is live on the PlayStation site at the time of typing this, as you can see in the image below. Every game added to Essential, Extra, and Premium and the dates you’ll be able to play them for free.
For PS Plus newbies, Essential is the cheapest tier of the subscription and includes online play and a small handful of games to download (and keep for as long as you have an active subscription). Extra is all of that plus an expansive library of PS4 and PS5 games. Similar to Game Pass, PlayStation adds games to its Extra library every month and removes some too.

There’s also no indication of how long this deal has been live, or how much longer it will remain available. If you do want to go the whole hog and subscribe to Premium, the highest tier which includes a Classic Catalog and trials of games like Spider-Man 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3, it is 33 percent off as a part of the same Extra for the price of Essential deal. PlayStation Plus is a subscription service from Sony.
It comes in three paid tiers – Essential, Extra, and Premium, and offers free monthly games to own, a catalog of hundreds of games, cloud storage, discounts, and online multiplayer gameplay. February’s Essential games have already been revealed, headlined by new release Foamstars. The additions to the Extra and Premium libraries for this month are yet to be confirmed, but will likely be revealed at some point this week.
As for the distant potential future for PlayStation, there’s a very real chance that by the end of this week, we’ll have been told by someone official that Xbox exclusives like Starfield and Hi-Fi Rush are coming to PS5.
