Ed Boon’s Desire to Not Be Playable in Mortal Kombat

Boon spotted the mod and shared it on Twitter, mentioning that the team had considered adding him to the game multiple times. However, he stated that it’s “Not gonna happen.” Ed Boon and John Tobias, the creators of Mortal Kombat, established the game in 1992. Even though they have not made guest appearances as fighters within the game, the modding community has been working diligently to change that.

BeyonderZ posted a video on YouTube showcasing their mod, swapping Scorpion for Ed Boon, effectively adding him to the game. Boon shared the video on Twitter and added some interesting trivia about the notion, remarking, “You wouldn’t believe how many times it’s been suggested that we make Ed Boon an MK fighter. Not gonna happen.” Although Boon and Tobias haven’t been introduced as playable characters, there is a character named after them.

Following Bi-Han’s resurrection, he discarded the Sub-Zero title to become Noob Saibot. When spelled backward, the name is a tribute to the creators. However, the character wears a black ninja attire and has white eyes, diverging from Boon’s known appearance. The mod for adding Boon to the game is currently exclusive to BeyonderZ’s Patreon supporters, but it will be available to the general public on May 1.

Despite the absence of Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 1, rumors suggest that a story DLC will feature Bi-Han transforming into the phantom in Fire God Liu Kang’s new universe, a notion Boon seemingly confirmed. In a somewhat indirect manner, Boon may be part of Mortal Kombat 1, but not in the same format as the mod. Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the game’s universe, following Liu Kang’s actions in altering the events of Mortal Kombat 11. The game encompasses a diverse roster of fighters, an expanded storyline, and the introduction of the all-new Kameo fighter system.
