Yesterday, on a whim, I decided to play Baldur’s Gate 3. Each morning, I spend an hour playing games before starting work. Currently, I’ve been focusing on Judgment, the 2018 Yakuza spin-off, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
I also have an ongoing quest to finish Bloodborne, but I reached a point where I was unsure what to do. Returning to Baldur’s Gate 3, I initially hesitated as I had stopped in the middle of an attempt to disable the Steel Watch Foundry, feeling under-leveled. However, after facing a quarter of a year away from the game, I loaded an earlier save and chose to head over to The Counting House instead.
At The Counting House, I found a completely stagnant queue. After some investigation, I discovered that the bank boss had taken an important person into the basement, and the tellers suspected something troubling was occurring. To enter the vaults, I needed a pass, and to get it, I had to navigate a low-stakes persuasion check in conversation with a bank teller.
The reintroduction to Baldur’s Gate 3 at The Counting House provided a safe area to acclimate back into the game’s crucial mechanics. I was able to pass persuasion checks and acquire the key to enter the bank. Once inside the basement, I solved a puzzle involving nine pressure plates, ultimately opening the locked vault.
Subsequently, the battle I faced was one of the easiest I’ve encountered in the game. Despite a slight struggle with using the controller, I found it surprisingly easy to get back into Baldur’s Gate 3. If I had known, I would have done this months ago.
