Xbox is reportedly planning a new Fallout game “sooner” than expected, separate from Fallout 5. This decision comes in light of the success of the TV adaptation.
Jez Corden from Windows Central states that Xbox is currently formulating plans on how to make this happen, although it is uncertain whether this game will be Fallout 5 or a spin-off developed by another studio, given that Bethesda is focused on Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. During the recent Xbox Two podcast, Corden mentioned that Xbox is working on getting the next Fallout game out “sooner rather than later.”
Although this is currently just a rumor, it is feasible that Xbox would want to capitalize on the show’s success, especially considering that the series’ latest entry, Fallout 4, is almost nine years old and Fallout 5’s launch does not appear to be imminent. Given this, it is probable that Xbox’s plans would involve engaging another studio to develop a Fallout game prior to Fallout 5’s release.
The popular choice for this project would be Obsidian, as it previously developed Fallout: New Vegas in 2010 and is also owned by Xbox. However, it should be noted that Obsidian has its own RPGs to work on with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2.
