The upcoming Side Order DLC for Splatoon 3 will be a roguelite that features randomised elements and permanent upgrades. Unlike the traditional linear single-player levels, Side Order will take players through towers in an area called the Spire of Order.
These towers will have randomised layouts and objectives for players to work through, following a staple of the roguelite genre. Additionally, the DLC will offer permanent upgrades such as different weapons and stat upgrades to help players make progression.
In the Nintendo Direct trailer for the game, it was revealed that players will be able to upgrade their abilities as they progress through the floors of the spire. This approach diverges from the usual level-based format, and instead, presents a new challenge for players to navigate through the randomized and dynamic environment of the Spire of Order.
This strategic and dynamic gameplay adds an additional layer of complexity and replayability to Splatoon 3’s single-player experience. The shift towards a roguelite format for the single-player expansion is a noteworthy departure from the standard progression in Splatoon games.
This choice to incorporate randomisation and permanent upgrades may provide a fresh and engaging gameplay experience for fans, offering a new and unique challenge that differs from the typical single-player levels in the series. With the introduction of Side Order, Splatoon 3 explores new horizons by blending the franchise’s vibrant, ink-splattering gameplay with the strategy and unpredictability of roguelite elements.
