Reebok has recently unveiled two new pairs of X-Men ’97-themed sneakers, drawing on the iconic looks of Wolverine and Gambit from the show. The Wolverine pair features a color scheme of black, blue, and yellow, while the Gambit sneakers showcase a blend of brown, black, pink, and purple.
Both designs will be available for purchase through Reebok and Footlocker at a price of $90 per pair from May 2. Reviving beloved cultural phenomena has its risks, particularly in ensuring that the essence of the source material is respected.
However, the revival of X-Men ’97 has been positively received, with the animated show’s first season garnering strong acclaim. In tandem with its upcoming three-part finale, Reebok has taken the opportunity to translate the characters of Wolverine and Gambit into officially licensed footwear.
Sneaker News highlights that while Wolverine and Gambit are the current focus of the limited footwear range, there are expectations that other X-Men characters could inspire future releases, especially if the initial sneakers prove to be successful. The Wolverine shoes boast black, blue, and yellow color patterns, mimicking Wolverine’s iconic mask and featuring the hero’s name embroidered in yellow on the side.
Notably, the fortunate winner of the X-Men ’97 Xbox sweepstakes will be rewarded with a matching Wolverine controller, presented in a packaging reminiscent of an X-Men action figure from the original show’s era.
