Mortal Kombat 1 Appears to Have Omitted Ermac from the Initial Roster for DLC

The Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions mode has become exhausting for me, despite being only two seasons deep. Prior to this, fans were unimpressed with the addition of original MK characters as DLC. While Quan-Chi and Ermac are popular fighters, their absence from the base roster, given their significance to the main story, seemed strange and led many to speculate that they were withheld intentionally to be later released as DLC.

Shang Tsung also garnered strong negative reactions. A post shared by TheMKSource on Twitter revealed that the soundtrack of Mortal Kombat 1 is set to receive a vinyl release, featuring artwork of the main roster. Interestingly, the artwork depicts 24 characters, whereas the base game only had 23 at launch.

Ermac, a DLC fighter, is included in the artwork, raising questions about the original intentions for his inclusion. Additionally, Ermac is depicted without his signature mask, suggesting a potential change from the original concept. One could argue that the inclusion of the additional character was simply to maintain symmetry on the cover, but it still raises questions, especially in light of the absence of Quan-Chi, the first post-launch MK character.

Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the franchise, following the events of Mortal Kombat 11, with Liu Kang’s influence altering the game’s universe. It introduces a diverse range of fighters, an expanded storyline, and a new Kameo fighter system.
