The gaming community is in turmoil as the Nintendo network shut down, leaving players unable to access their favorite games. One player, @Lcd101, has valiantly held out as the final Splatoon 1 player online, documenting the empty lobbies and eerie silence in the game.
They fear that turning off the Wii U will prevent them from getting back in, so they are refusing to power it down. Despite the server shutdown, Nintendo has stated that some third-party titles will still work online, although specific games exempted were not revealed.
Players can still access Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter, but their future availability remains uncertain. Additionally, redownloading purchased games from the eShop will continue to be possible for the “foreseeable future”.
Fortunately, players can still use StreetPass, as it operates through local communication, but SpotPass will no longer function. Amidst the uncertainty and dwindling activity in popular games, the community is hoping for a resolution or clarity on the future of online gaming on the Nintendo network.
