New details on Nintendo’s next console, often referred to as the Switch 2, have recently surfaced. According to reports translated by ResetEra user –R, the Switch 2 is said to be bigger than the original Switch but smaller than the Steam Deck. It is also rumored that the console is unlikely to be released this year and has been internally delayed until early 2025.
The source of this information is reportedly a manufacturing employee who claims to have been given a preview of the Switch 2 ahead of its public reveal. However, to prevent any image leaks, the source mentions they were only allowed to “touch” the console without actually seeing it, as is consistent with Nintendo’s preview practice. Additionally, there have been reports of changes to the joy-con attachment system, transitioning from rails to a magnetic system.
Vandal also claims that current Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers will still be compatible with the Switch 2, providing some reassurance to users who may be concerned about having to replace their controllers for the new console. However, it remains uncertain whether the existing Joy-Cons will be compatible with the Switch 2, as this detail has not been addressed in the recent report. Fans are also eager to learn if the new console will address the Joy-Con drift issue that has plagued its predecessor.
This issue has resulted in numerous complaints, repair requests, replacements, and legal actions against Nintendo. At this stage, it is important to note that the information remains speculative, as Nintendo has not officially announced its next console. Nevertheless, if the projected early 2025 launch is accurate, an official announcement may be expected during the upcoming summer gaming showcases.
